A Torch Against the Night, An Ember in the Ashes #2 by Sabaa Tahir

I’m honestly falling hard for Laia and Elias. This book is tense and action packed from the very first page and honestly, it’s got me STRESSED. One of the things that brings me the most joy is how Elias has completely ditched his mask..he’s over here saying “damn the man!” and living his truth and it’s so beautiful. This is a little heavier of a series that I probably would have wanted at this time of the year but either way I am here for this series.

We loved it. So, so much. Laia is such a passionate and loyal woman and her dedication to family is so admirable. Elias. My sweet blueberry muffin. You got that tragic backstory I need in a hero, dark hair, golden eyes, obviously chiseled in marble by a god or something divine. Laia, I get you girl, he sounds fine af. He shares a lot of the same dedication as Laia. He is determined to escape the horrible direction of the Empire. He is fiercely loyal to Helene and his friends. I love these guys. I want to be them when I grow up.

These Violent Delights, These Violent Delights #1 by Chloe Gong

In an effort to not just make this a An Ember in the Ashes post because honestly I plan on finishing the series next, I plan on reading this book either in the midst of the series or after I finish the series. Look, you told me 1920s Shanghai, Romeo + Juliet retelling with street gangs and monsters and I honestly said, yes my body is ready. I’ve skimmed some of the book in an effort to sate my absolute need to read this and I already love it. Roma sounds like the exact hero I need in my books-sarcastic af, sass, secretly a muffin tart (?). Juliette seems like a beast. Strong convictions and has no problem jumping into a fight full force. Gimme gimme gimme.
